DESCRIPTION:This full day course focuses upon National Safety Code (NSC) compliance and record-keeping with an emphasis on preparing to be audited by NSC auditors. \nCompletion of BCTA’s NSC Program Course (Level I) or a good understanding of the NSC Regulations is required for this Level II Course. \n\nRecords under discussion include:  Hours of service and what is required in terms of support documentation\, the hours of services in Canada and the USA\, driving North of the 60 Parallel. Maximum hours to drive in a day\, work in a day and deferrals as well as special cases such as adverse weather. \nVehicle records including: \n\nHaving a vehicle safety management plan or vehicle safety plan and how to write this plan\nVehicle maintenance records required\n\nDriver records: \n\nLetters of discipline\nPolicies and procedures manuals\nCompany reports that relate to the National Safety Code\nDriver assessments\nDriver abstracts and the frequency getting new abstracts\n\nHours of Service record-keeping \n\nWhat the hours of service are and how to monitor the hours for the drivers (these requirements are examined in detail)\nThe proper way to audit log books as they come through\n\nAll participants will go through the process of building\, managing\, and eventually purging NSC files.  Recall systems will be outlined\, which assist in expiring paperwork being brought forward. \nThe Motor Vehicle Act regulations will be studied to ensure that all participants understand the legal obligations under the NSC\, how its standards apply to all carriers\, and how the failing of an audit can adversely affect a carrier’s operations. \nThe carrier profile will also be studied to ensure that all participants can read and understand all aspects of the carrier profile. It is recommended that all participants bring a copy of their carrier profile to work on and to study. \nThis program is 8 hours in length and will be a lecture-discussion demonstration format.  All participants in this program will be required to interact during this program through group exercises and discussions. This session is designed for any person who has to act as a National Safety Code compliance/enforcement officer for a fleet. The training includes information on NSC aspects relating to pre-trip inspections\, driver evaluations\, driver reviews\, and dealing with other driver-related training problems\, Transportation of Dangerous Goods courses\, and remedial training drivers must take due to poor performance/records. The procedures for coordinating driver evaluations\, maintaining vehicle records\, and setting up driver paperwork and retrieval are discussed. \nNSC RECORD KEEPING\nThe NSC Record Keeper Session is the third topic of the day and focuses on the need for proper record-keeping practices. In a lecture-discussion format\, this training course looks at all National Safety Code paperwork requirements\, including driver abstracts\, driver files\, vehicle files\, National Safety Code Profiles\, and more. It outlines the creation and maintenance of a recall system to be used for drivers’ licenses\, vehicle files and insurance. Preparation for audits is discussed\, with the responsibilities of the record keeper outlined in terms of setting up and maintaining all files related to the National Safety Code. SUMMARY:Managing Workplace Impairment Supervisor Training
DESCRIPTION:This half-day DOT compliant course is designed for managers\, supervisors\, safety and compliance staff\, dispatchers and any staff member who is in regular contact with employees in safety-sensitive positions. The course provides essential education that will help companies\, through their supervisors\, overcome the many challenges they will face when addressing substance use in their workplaces and when implementing compliant testing policies.\n\nParticipants will review the history of substance use\, how this use impacts the workplace and what the current regulations require employers to do to address it. This course will be of value both to companies required to comply with US Department of Transportation testing protocols for cross-border work as well as those operating entirely in Canada who are required to comply with Federal Labour Code standards and/or provincial WorkSafeBC regulations. The program is designed to meet and exceed the regulatory requirements of 49 CFR\, part 382.603(a) issued by the US DOT. Participants will receive tools\, templates and practical strategies to address impairment in the workplace and will also learn to recognize the physical\, behavioral\, speech and performance indicators of probable drug and alcohol use\, and how to better address these issues. Topics covered will include specific challenges supervisors and co-workers face\, how to overcome them and how to manage employees who may be experiencing issues with alcohol and/or drugs. The course will provide a discussion of when employers must accommodate disability and medical use (and when they don’t need to)\, as well as when and how to discipline an employee who uses substances.\n\nAttendees should come prepared to share their experiences at their workplaces along with questions.\n  \nPresenter: Dave Earle\, President and CEO\, BC Trucking Association \nAmong Dave’s related board and committee experience\, he is a past president of the Employers’ Forum and the current Employer Caucus Chair for WorkSafeBC’s Policy and Practice Consultation Committee. \nDave acted as the employer chair of the Program Administration Committee for the BC Construction Industry Substance Abuse\, Testing and Treatment Program\, and as the employer co-chair of the Board of Trustees for the Construction Industry Rehabilitation Program\, for 8 years. SUMMARY:CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency Program Course
DESCRIPTION:BCTA will be accepting applications for Year-three of the CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency (HDVE) Program from new applicants on August 9\, 2021 and all applicants on September 13\, 2021. One requirement – successful completion of this free\, half-day training. \nThe CleanBC HDVE Program\, funded by the Province of British Columbia\, offers rebates of up to 50 percent of costs for eligible equipment\, to a maximum of $15\,000 per vehicle or $100\,000 per fleet. \nDuring the application process\, BC carriers who complete this course may apply for rebates on approved fuel-efficiency equipment that promises documented savings in fuel usage and decreased greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Eligible equipment includes wide-based single tires (445mm or wider)\, APUs\, selected aerodynamic devices and engine or fuel system modifications\, new LNG vehicles and hydrogen systems. Visit the CleanBC HDVE Program Guide\, for an updated list of eligible fuel-efficiency equipment. \nA BCTA membership is not required. The primary goal of Program Incentive distribution is to reduce GHG emissions from heavy-duty on-road commercial vehicles. Incentive applications are open to all BC-based carriers\, including owner-operators. Priority funding allocation for Year-three will be given to new applicants. BCTA will distribute Program Incentives among eligible applicants in a way that supports diversification across provincial regions as well as motor carrier types and fleet size. \nNew applicants may apply for CleanBC HDVE Program Incentives as of August 9\, 2021 and all applicants are invited to apply on September 13\, 2021. DESCRIPTION:This full day course focuses upon National Safety Code (NSC) compliance and record-keeping with an emphasis on preparing to be audited by NSC auditors. \nCompletion of BCTA’s NSC Program Course (Level I) or a good understanding of the NSC Regulations is required for this Level II Course. \n\nRecords under discussion include:  Hours of service and what is required in terms of support documentation\, the hours of services in Canada and the USA\, driving North of the 60 Parallel. Maximum hours to drive in a day\, work in a day and deferrals as well as special cases such as adverse weather. \nVehicle records including: \n\nHaving a vehicle safety management plan or vehicle safety plan and how to write this plan\nVehicle maintenance records required\n\nDriver records: \n\nLetters of discipline\nPolicies and procedures manuals\nCompany reports that relate to the National Safety Code\nDriver assessments\nDriver abstracts and the frequency getting new abstracts\n\nHours of Service record-keeping \n\nWhat the hours of service are and how to monitor the hours for the drivers (these requirements are examined in detail)\nThe proper way to audit log books as they come through\n\nAll participants will go through the process of building\, managing\, and eventually purging NSC files.  Recall systems will be outlined\, which assist in expiring paperwork being brought forward. \nThe Motor Vehicle Act regulations will be studied to ensure that all participants understand the legal obligations under the NSC\, how its standards apply to all carriers\, and how the failing of an audit can adversely affect a carrier’s operations. \nThe carrier profile will also be studied to ensure that all participants can read and understand all aspects of the carrier profile. It is recommended that all participants bring a copy of their carrier profile to work on and to study. \nThis program is 8 hours in length and will be a lecture-discussion demonstration format.  All participants in this program will be required to interact during this program through group exercises and discussions. SUMMARY:National Safety Code Program Course
DESCRIPTION:NSC HOURS OF SERVICE\nThe NSC Hours of Service Session is designed for drivers\, compliance officers and record-keepers. The course outlines the National Safety Code’s Hours of Service standard. It examines the various cycles available\, exemptions\, and the correct use of logging hours. As well\, the course includes some information on US requirements and US regulations pertaining to electronic logging devices\, which is beneficial for drivers who cross the border. \nNSC COMPLIANCE OFFICER\nThe NSC Compliance Officer Session is the second topic of the day. This portion focuses on National Safety Code compliance – general and specific\, and looks at the ways in which an organization is affected by non-compliance. This session is designed for any person who has to act as a National Safety Code compliance/enforcement officer for a fleet. The training includes information on NSC aspects relating to pre-trip inspections\, driver evaluations\, driver reviews\, and dealing with other driver-related training problems\, Transportation of Dangerous Goods courses\, and remedial training drivers must take due to poor performance/records. The procedures for coordinating driver evaluations\, maintaining vehicle records\, and setting up driver paperwork and retrieval are discussed. \nNSC RECORD KEEPING\nThe NSC Record Keeper Session is the third topic of the day and focuses on the need for proper record-keeping practices. In a lecture-discussion format\, this training course looks at all National Safety Code paperwork requirements\, including driver abstracts\, driver files\, vehicle files\, National Safety Code Profiles\, and more. It outlines the creation and maintenance of a recall system to be used for drivers’ licenses\, vehicle files and insurance. Preparation for audits is discussed\, with the responsibilities of the record keeper outlined in terms of setting up and maintaining all files related to the National Safety Code. The record keeper’s important role in relation to the fleet is discussed. \nThe course has a quiz at the end\, to be marked and discussed in class. Participants are provided with attendance certificates. DESCRIPTION:New! BCTA will be accepting applications for CleanBC Heavy-duty Vehicle Efficiency (HDVE) Program Incentives from February 3 to 21\, 2020. One requirement – successful completion of this free\, one-day course. \nThe CleanBC HDVE Program\, funded by the Province of British Columbia\, offers rebates for up to 30 to 50 percent of eligible costs for equipment\, to a maximum of $10\,000 per vehicle or $100\,000 per fleet. \nDuring the February application period\, BC carriers who complete this course may apply for rebates on approved fuel-efficiency equipment that promises documented savings in fuel usage and decreased greenhouse gas emissions. Eligible equipment includes wide-based single tires (445mm or wider)\, APUs\, selected aerodynamic devices and engine or fuel system modifications. Visit the CleanBC HDVE Program Guide\, for an updated list of eligible fuel-efficiency equipment. \nA BCTA membership is not required. The primary goal of Program Incentive distribution is to reduce GHG emissions from heavy-duty on-road commercial vehicles. Incentive applications are open to all BC-based carriers\, including owner-operators. And\, BCTA will distribute Program Incentives among eligible applicants in a way that supports diversification across provincial regions as well as motor carrier types and fleet size. \nCarriers may apply for CleanBC HDVE Program Incentives from February 3 to 21\, 2020.
